The honcho of customs reiterates his commitment to fighting smuggling across Nigeria’s borders.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller General (C-G), Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed his resolve to continue the fight against smuggling across Nigeria’s borders.
Adeniyi revealed this on Thursday in Abuja during the News Agency of Nigeria’s (NAN) First Annual International Lecture opening ceremony.
The management of NAN came up with the idea for the lecture, which has as its theme “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts and Options,” as part of their efforts to address the threat of insecurity in both Nigeria and the Sahel.
“In order for the nation to reap the benefits of democracy, addressing insecurity has remained a major challenge.
He claimed that NCS was combating smuggling at Nigeria’s ports and borders as part of its constitutional duties to stop the spread of weapons and other contraband, and that this effort was having a positive impact.
The C-G said that the event was appropriate in light of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to implement economic reforms, which needed a supportive atmosphere to be successful.
Through its range of offerings, he claims that NAN has proven its ability to make investments in other media outlets.
The recent spat with the media, he claimed, demonstrated the need for the newspaper industry to be involved in granting access to print for their publications.
He stated, “Editors ought to unite behind the president to address this.”
The Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, praised NAN in his goodwill message for bringing together prominent security experts to devise a fresh plan for putting an end to insecurity in the Sahel regions.
