Nigerian Ports Authority Delivers Two New Pilot Boats to Lekki Port

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has delivered two sophisticated pilot boats, PC Jalingo and PC Nadiya, to Lekki Port, Nigeria’s first deep-sea port. By making it easier for big ships to navigate the port’s channel safely and smoothly, the new boats are expected to improve the operational efficiency of the facility.

Lekki Port’s Managing Director and CEO, Du Ruogang, underlined the importance of this delivery, pointing out that the new pilot boats will increase the port’s ability to handle higher cargo volumes. Ruogang clarified that the installation of PC Jalingo and PC Nadiya will strengthen Lekki Port’s position as a vital entry point to West Africa’s trade routes by enabling it to maintain safe and efficient maritime operations.

Additionally, Ruogang cited this accomplishment as proof of the Nigerian Ports Authority’s dedication to carrying out its end of the concession agreement’s duties. He emphasized the NPA’s contribution to fortifying the port’s infrastructure and conveyed his sincere gratitude for the organization’s unwavering support since the port opened for business in April 2023.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Yang Xixiong, Operations Manager for Lekki Port, hailed the pilot boat arrival as a significant advancement toward the port’s goal of becoming the primary maritime gateway in West Africa. According to Xixiong, the new ships will considerably enhance the port’s navigational capabilities, guaranteeing the efficient and safe passage of ships into and out of the terminal.

These boats will enable our pilots to more skillfully navigate a range of sized vessels, improving safety even in rough weather and on the ocean. Our operations will be quicker and more effective thanks to the larger fleet since we can handle more ships in less time,” Xixiong continued.

Ruogang and Xixiong both expressed optimism about the future of Lekki Port’s operations as it continues to evolve into a central hub for international shipping and commerce. The delivery of the new pilot boats signals the port’s ongoing efforts to meet the demands of West Africa’s growing trade network.
